Every new year presents an opportunity for a fresh start, new expectations, and renewed hope. However, in the kingdom of God, a successful year does not begin with activities or resolutions, it begins with a strong spiritual foundation. What you build on at the start of the year determines how well you stand throughout the year.
Jesus clearly explained this truth in Matthew 7:24–27 when He spoke about two builders. Both builders experienced storms, but only the one who built on the rock stood firm. This teaches us that challenges are part of life, but spiritual preparation determines stability and victory.
As we begin this year with 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting, we are intentionally setting our foundation right. Prayer and fasting help us silence distractions, sharpen spiritual sensitivity, and align our hearts with God’s divine agenda for the year.
The beginning of the year is a prophetic season. It is a time to ask God for direction, clarity, and divine timing. Many blessings are connected to God’s appointed time, not human effort. Scripture reminds us in Psalm 102:13:
“Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come.”
This scripture reveals that there is a set time, a kairos moment, when God rises to show favor. Fasting and prayer position us to recognize and enter that season without delay.
A strong spiritual foundation includes:
- Consistent prayer and fasting
- Obedience to God’s word
- Sensitivity to divine timing
- Alignment with God’s purpose
When these are in place, confusion gives way to clarity, delay gives way to acceleration, and effort begins to produce results.
As you step into this new year, do not rush ahead of God. Take this season seriously. Build intentionally. Build prayerfully. Build with understanding.
